Poet of the People
George Triggs: Sculpture of Benjamin Zephaniah
Co-curated by Ruth Millington and Hannah Payne
TM Gallery presents Poet of the People, a focused sculptural exhibition centred on a major new bronze portrait of the late British poet, writer, actor and activist Benjamin Zephaniah (1958 – 2023) by figurative sculptor George Triggs.
Conceived at over four-times life size, the monumental work explores portraiture as a vessel for presence, memory and cultural legacy, reflecting on Zephaniah’s enduring impact as one of Britain’s most vital public voices.
Developed in dialogue with the Zephaniah family and shaped through Triggs’ personal engagement with the poet’s life and writing, the exhibition will bring together sculpture, interpretation, and public programme elements within an immersive gallery presentation.
