Alnwick Castle
Alnwick, Northumberland
Alnwick Castle is an 11th Century castle and country house in Alnwick in the English county of Northumberland. It is the seat of the 12th Duke of Northumberland, built following the Norman Conquest and renovated and remodelled a number of times. It is a Grade I listed building now the home of Ralph Percy, 12th Duke of Northumberland and his family. In 2016, the castle received over 600,000 visitors per year when combined with adjacent attraction the Alnwick Garden. It is famed as the backdrop to the Harry Potter films.
TM Lighting was commissioned to update the lighting in several of the State Rooms including the Library. ZeroForty spotlights were used to accent the ceiling coffers, and ZeroThirty spotlights were used to light every other bookshelf creating a more dynamic effect. The two large paintings in the space were lit with the MasterLight Round which compliments the frames so nothing distracts from the artwork. Solo Picture Lights were used to accent the clock at each end of the room. All lighting circuits were individually dimmable to balance the light and dimmed to conservation levels where necessary.
The new lighting brings definition to the library whilst the dimmable function protects the beautiful natural fabrics and wood from fading. The lighting brings out the full spectrum of colours in the room so they are rich and vibrant, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere as was originally intended.
