TM Lighting, the UK’s leading art lighting specialist, has received two new UK patents for its TM MasterLight and TM ArtDownlight. These patented lights will provide industry experts with cutting-edge lighting solutions and will ensure that globally renowned artists, international art fairs, institutions, and private collectors worldwide can choose from the most advanced art lighting products on the market.
TM ArtDownlight and MagPoint
Designed with the residential private collector in mind, the ArtDownlight is a miniature adjustable downlight with a 2cm aperture that uses high colour rendition lighting (97CRI LED) and is available with a range of bezels and louvres to help precisely sculpt the light for each artwork. The ArtDownlight represents a new approach to lighting art from a recessed ceiling position, benefitting from the innovative MagPoint which provides a trimless ceiling facility, eliminating the need for replastering.
The ArtDownlight is fully adjustable in pan and tilt, offering maximum flexibility to angle the light onto an artwork. It comes with the option of a zoomable function that allows the beam width to vary by the simple rotation of a bezel. Alternatively, it can be supplied with a fixed beam width – narrow, medium or flood – which can be easily replaced to light different pieces. It has a supplementary ‘louvre’ feature, which allows the user to minimise the light at the top of the painting preventing light spill above the artwork.
The installation is simple and fast, minimising time and cost while providing a discreet aesthetic. The downlight can be plugged into the MagPoint™ aperture and where a downlight is not required, a blanking plate can be added and removed as needed, as the art collection evolves. The downlight can also be removed and replaced with a surface spotlight to provide flexibility and allow further adjustments.

TM MasterLight
Unrivalled in the marketplace, the MasterLight sets a new industry standard, enabling the illumination of 4-metre-high canvases from a minimal profile. This versatile solution offers precise lighting techniques from a contemporary picture light, that can also be applied in a heritage setting. This state-of-the-art miniature LED picture light delivers targeted light distribution, ensuring each artwork is evenly lit. It is equipped with a front cowl to control direct glare from the light and offers a unique adjustable trim feature enabling the removal of spill light above the canvas. Together, these individual features offer maximum flexibility in focusing an artwork to a museum-grade standard. Underpinning this technology is TM Lighting’s commitment to achieving a high Colour Rendering Index (CRI) of 97+ in all of its products.
The MasterLight is available in three slender profiles – Classic, Square and Round – suited to different interiors and design preferences. It comes in a range of finishes, including antique bronze, antique brass, black anodise, and white powder coat. As a modular picture light, the MasterLight is designed to extend infinitely, making it capable of illuminating artworks of any length. Whether lighting a small canvas or creating a wall wash effect for a 10-metre-long tapestry, the MasterLight adapts seamlessly.
